Trauma Models in Swine
نویسنده
چکیده
The most significant driving force for research in this arena is traumatic blast injury (TBI) in both civilians and military personnel since explosive devices are now being used as a tactical military weapon as well as a weapon of terrorism. TBI typically results in polytrauma involving multi-system injury most commonly neurotrauma, pulmonary injury, extremity injury, hemorrhage and burns.1, 4-11 There is not a consensus on the most effective form of treatment for fluid resuscitation, blood substitutes or treatment of shock in this condition.5-11 In addition to TBI, models are also needed for gunshot wound and other types of non-TBI situations such as falls and car accidents. There is also not a consensus on the most effective therapeutic approaches for some of these situations especially when considering pediatric patients.12

Non-Osteotomy and Osteotomy Large Animal Fracture Models in Orthopedic Trauma Research
Large animal fracture models are important in the field of orthopedic trauma research. New implants are tested in animals before being implanted into humans. Large animals like sheep or swine often are more properly to simulate conditions in humans, e.g. biomechanical demands, compared to rodents. Cited articles mainly analyze shock or fracture healing. Both osteotomy and non-osteotomy fracture...
متن کاملA laparoscopic swine model of noncompressible torso hemorrhage.
BACKGROUND Hemorrhage persists as the leading cause of potentially preventable civilian and military death. Noncompressible torso hemorrhage (NCTH) is a particularly lethal injury complex, with few contemporary prehospital interventions available. Various porcine models of hemorrhage have been developed for civilian and military trauma research. However, the predominant contemporary models lack...
متن کاملShort Article Premedication with meloxicam exacerbates intracranial haemorrhage in an immature swine model of non-impact inertial head injury
Meloxicam is a cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) preferential non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with very effective analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects in swine. Previous reports in piglets have demonstrated that meloxicam also inhibits COX-1 and reduces production of thromboxane significantly. We use preinjury analgesia in our immature swine (3–5-day-old piglets) model of brain injury using rap...

متن کاملAnalysis of cardiac and pulmonary injuries resulting from an experimental penetrating thoracic injury.
BACKGROUND This study was planned to analyze the internal and external anatomical findings of cardiac injuries and the presence of accompanying pulmonary injuries in intentionally inflicted thoracic injuries to swine models. METHODS We inflicted a penetrating heart injury in six suis domesticus female swine models. Two cardiac injuries, one on the left paratracheal of fourth intercostal space...
